We haven't made that transfer ourselves so we can't say with certainty. We've done some research on this and believe that you do have to go back through security if you are going from terminal 5 to another terminal. Although we have never used them, so we can't make a recommendation one way or the other, there is a company called London Magical Tours that offers a layover tour out of Heathrow.
